JM & AD Pivonka Family Memories

These pages include information about the JM Pivonka family in Moravia, their emigration to the United States, and their pioneer lives in the U.S. Much of this material is taken from the book "A Record of the Jacob Method Pivonka Family and their Descendants, 1832 - 1977, Rush County, Kansas" by Sr. Simeon Pivonka, CSJ, 1979.  These documents  are reproduced from the "Record" with as little change as possible, to preserve the flavor and historical context of the original. Links to comments, errata and amendments will be added as opportunity permits.

Introduction

It is fitting that since this web site and its content is inspired by and largely derived from Sr. Simeon Pivonka's work "A Record of the Jacob Method Pivonka Family and their Descendants, 1832 - 1977, Rush County, Kansas", the site include the Introduction to that work. The Introduction also contains the explanation of the 'Pcode' system which uniquely identifies descendants of JM and Antonia Dvorak Pivonka by their place in the 'family tree'.

Jacob M & Antonia Dvorak Pivonka Visit Moravia, 1906

Family records and stories tell that Jacob and Antonia returned to Moravia for a visit, in 1906, probably in connection with a wedding, maybe even that of Frank Dvorak mentioned in JN Pivonka's narrative, above. The family has photograph's taken during that trip, including one reproduced in the 'Record' and three on fabric 'pillow tops'.  The actual dates of this trip are in doubt, with some indicatations that Jacob and Antonia returned to the US in 1909.
